John Cena is parting ways with the WWE. At the Money in the Bank live event in Toronto, Canada, on July 6, the 47-year-old wrestler revealed his plans to step away from World Wrestling Entertainment.
“This evening, I announce my departure from the WWE,” the athlete-turned-actor shared with the audience at Scotiabank Arena.
The Argylle star mentioned that he will embark on one final tour with the WWE in 2025, performing at major events such as Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania.
“I’ve noticed a range of opinions out there. Perhaps some questions, right? Like, why here? I’d like to discuss that for a moment. I’d like to discuss Toronto. In fact, let’s talk about Canada. And, if I may, Canadians,” Cena continued.
“I’ve been doing this for a while. I’ve been with WWE for over two decades, and during that time, I’ve witnessed incredible peaks of success and difficult challenges,” the wrestler reflected. “But whether the WWE was thriving or struggling, Canadians always showed up,” he added, expressing his gratitude for the country’s unwavering support.
“I want to express my gratitude. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey and for building the WWE into what it is today,” he said.
Cena, who signed with WWE in 2001 and has been performing part-time since 2018, holds the record of being a 16-time world champion.
“This farewell isn’t the end; it’s a new beginning. I want to express my gratitude for allowing me to perform in the house that you constructed over the years. Thank you for your voice, which is both powerful and honest, and for your honesty, which is beautifully raw. And, most importantly, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey,” he continued emotionally.
