**Watford’s Dominant Display Sees Them Ease Past Plymouth in Carabao Cup**
Tom Cleverley, a former Manchester United team-mate of Wayne Rooney’s, got the better of his old friend as Watford cruised to their fifth win of the season with a 2-0 defeat of Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup second round.
“I thought we dominated the game and had the best chances,” Cleverley said post-match. “I enjoyed the challenge of facing Wayne. It’s always good to see old team-mates and exchange ideas and stories and I wish him all the best for the season.”
Mileta Rajovic scored twice for Watford, with his first goal coming in the early stages of the game after he deftly flicked Ryan Porteous’ cross in. Although Plymouth goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw made several stunning saves to keep Watford at bay, Rajovic added a second in the 72nd minute to settle the game.
Rooney’s side lacked quality in attack, and despite Ryan Hardie hitting the post late on, they were well-beaten. “I think we’re doing one side of the game well and not the other,” Rooney said. “It’s about putting that performance together both in and out of possession.”
The defeat means Plymouth are still without a first win of the season in the league, but they did beat Cheltenham to reach the second round before Tuesday’s defeat.
Cleverley, on the other hand, can reflect on the promising foundations he is building at Watford, with his side cruising through the rest of the clash after taking the lead.
