Mark Wahlberg recently revealed a humorous anecdote about his mother Alma and her encounter with George Clooney on the set of their 2000 film, The Perfect Storm.
The movie, directed by Wolfgang Peterson, tells the true story of a devastating cyclone that caught a fishing vessel off guard, resulting in the tragic loss of its six-man crew.
When Alma visited her son on set, she was smitten with George, who was already an international heartthrob at the time. She was convinced that George was interested in her romantically and even told Mark that he had asked her out on a date.
Mark jokingly expressed his doubts about George’s intentions, but Alma was adamant, insisting that George liked her “a lot” and had even asked her out. Mark playfully teased his mother, saying he wouldn’t mind having George as a stepfather.

Mark fondly recalled the incident, saying his mother had a special place in her heart for George and even had a picture of the two of them on her wall, which she cherished more than pictures of her own children.
The movie, which starred Diane Lane, John C. Reilly, Karen Allen, and William Fichtner, was a commercial success despite receiving mixed reviews.
It’s worth noting that George had recently broken up with his girlfriend of three years, French law student Celine Balitran, around the time of the film’s production.

Alma passed away in 2021 at the age of 78 due to complications from dementia. Mark paid a heartfelt tribute to her on Mother’s Day, sharing a throwback picture of his family gathering around her at her 75th birthday party.
Mark has been married to his wife Rhea since 2009, and they have four children together: Ella, 20, Michael, 18, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 14.
