One of Aston Villa’s new signings has made a surprising request to manager Unai Emery – to coach him in Spanish, despite not being able to speak the language.
The player, who recently joined the club, wants to be addressed in Spanish, even though he can’t understand it. This unusual request is motivated by the player’s desire to learn the language and adapt to the team’s Spanish-speaking coaching staff.
The recent acquisition is eager to make an instant impact at Villa Park, and learning Spanish is seen as an essential part of that process. With many of Emery’s coaching staff hailing from Spain, the player believes that this will help him to better communicate with his teammates and coaches.
The player, who already speaks five languages, including Wolof, French, English, German, and Dutch, is determined to add Spanish to his repertoire. He stated that he wants to learn Spanish to improve his football skills and to better connect with his coaches and teammates.
There have been several significant signings at Villa this summer as Emery’s side prepares to compete in the Champions League. One of these signings is Amadou Onana, who became the club’s record signing when he joined from Everton for £50million last month.

Onana, who already speaks five languages, is eager for Emery to coach him in Spanish. He believes that this will help him to improve his language skills and to better understand the coach’s instructions.
Onana said: ‘I’ve asked Unai Emery and his staff to speak to me in Spanish so that I can answer in Spanish. I already speak five languages, Wolof – from my childhood growing up in Senegal – French, German, English, and Dutch. But I’m learning a sixth.’

Onana believes that his conversations with Emery can help him to improve his Spanish. He stated: ‘I love Spain and go there at least once a year. It’s a beautiful language, and it would be nice to be able to speak it more fluently.’
Onana possesses plenty of Premier League experience, having made over 60 appearances in the division for Everton. He has also previously played in the Champions League for Lille.
In addition to Onana, Villa have also signed players including Ian Maatsen, Ross Barkley, Samuel Iling-Junior, Lewis Dobbin, and Jaden Philogene.
