MGM+ has released the official trailer for its upcoming docuseries, The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood, which delves into one of the most infamous murder cases in Los Angeles history.
In this gripping series, best-selling crime novelist Michael Connelly takes viewers on a journey into the dark world of 1980s Hollywood, where sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll collided with murder. The case, which inspired the film Boogie Nights, revolves around the gruesome quadruple murder at Wonderland Avenue on July 1st, 1981.
Through a series of noir-style interviews with original detectives, prosecutors, and undercover cops, Connelly uncovers the shocking details of the case, weaving in rare archival footage and photos. The investigation leads to a colorful cast of characters, including famous porn star John Holmes, drug dealers, and kingpins, as well as multiple celebrities, including Liberace and his enigmatic boyfriend, Scott Thorson.
In a cat-and-mouse game, Connelly attempts to separate fact from fiction as he delves into Thorson’s extraordinary stories, which may hold the key to unlocking the truth behind the massacre. But can he trust Thorson’s version of events?
The four-episode docuseries premieres on MGM+ on September 8th, based on Connelly’s hit Audible podcast series and directed by Alison Ellwood.
