Erik ten Hag Demands Right Attitude from Manchester United Players
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has emphasized the importance of his players’ attitude if they are left out of the squad this season. The Dutch coach’s comments come after Jadon Sancho was missing from the 20-man squad that faced Fulham in United’s opening game.
Sancho’s omission stemmed from his fall-out with Ten Hag last season, when the England winger claimed to have been made a “scapegoat” by his manager. Although the issue has been resolved, there is still a possibility that Sancho could leave United this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus reportedly interested in his services.
When asked if Sancho could return to the squad for United’s upcoming game against Brighton, Ten Hag was non-committal, but stressed the importance of his players accepting his decision if they are left out. “We will see,” he said. “We have a squad, and I hope we will have a squad with double positioning when we go into the season after September 1. That means you can’t select all the players, but you need them all throughout the season. We have to manage it.”
Ten Hag emphasized that the attitude of his players is crucial, saying, “Sometimes they will be disappointed, and they have to deal with it. You win as a squad. The prizes are decided next May, and until then, we need all the players in the squad and highly motivated. That is not an expectation, that is a demand on the squad.”
The Manchester United boss also confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Victor Lindelof will miss the trip to Brighton. “Tyrell Malacia, Rasmus Hojlund, they’re not available. Luke Shaw, of course,” he added. “(Lindelof) has an issue on his toe, hopefully, he can return quickly, but not available for the weekend.”
