**Amanda Staveley’s Final Request to Newcastle United’s Board Revealed**
Newcastle United’s former minority owner, Amanda Staveley, had one crucial request for the club’s board before her departure.
Staveley, who led the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle in 2021, stepped down from the club’s board last week after selling her six per cent stake in the Magpies. Alongside her husband, businessman Mehrdad Ghodoussi, Staveley took a 10 per cent stake in the club initially, before reducing it to six per cent, allowing Saudi PIF to increase their stake to 85 per cent.
According to reports, Staveley made one final request of Newcastle’s board before leaving the club. She asked the executives to ensure that manager Eddie Howe receives all the necessary backing this summer to help Newcastle sustain another Champions League challenge against the Top Four.
Howe guided the Toon to Champions League qualification in the 2022-23 season, but exited the competition in its early stages due to an injury crisis. Staveley and Ghodoussi played a crucial role in Howe’s appointment in November 2021, when the club was without a chief executive and sporting director.

The English businesswoman formed a strong rapport with Howe during her tenure, and it’s believed that Howe was sad to see Staveley and Ghodoussi leave the club. Staveley held various director’s roles across the club during her three-year tenure and was appointed to the club’s board.

Staveley’s request is a testament to her commitment to the club’s success, even after her departure. Newcastle United will be hoping to build on their Champions League qualification and make a deeper run in the competition next season.

With Staveley and Ghodoussi’s exit, Newcastle United’s ownership structure has changed, but the club remains committed to its goal of becoming a top-four team in the Premier League.
