Shana Wall, Former Amazing Race Contestant, Sues American Airlines After Swallowing Plastic on Flight
Shana Wall, a former contestant on The Amazing Race, has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after allegedly swallowing plastic on a flight to Rome, resulting in serious and permanent injuries.
According to court documents, Wall, 51, claimed to have sustained injuries to her throat, esophagus, vocal cords, and digestive system after consuming a beverage containing broken plastic and shards on a May 1 flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The incident left her confined to her home and bed, unable to work, and suffering from internal damage.
Wall, a sommelier and contributing recipe writer, is seeking an unspecified amount in damages, citing lost wages and future medical expenses. She alleged that American Airlines had a duty to provide uncontaminated and safe food and beverages, and that the airline created a dangerous and defective condition on the airplane.
The incident has left Wall with a loss of enjoyment of life, and she has become incapacitated from her occupation, sustaining wage and economic loss. Her lawsuit states that she will require additional medical care and treatment in the future as a result of her personal injuries.
Wall is perhaps best known for her stint on season 12 of The Amazing Race in 2001, and her past relationship with Ryan Seacrest from 2003 to 2005.

Wall’s lawsuit against American Airlines is not an isolated incident. Last month, United Airlines issued an apology to Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis after he was briefly placed on a no-fly list and escorted off of an airplane in handcuffs on July 13.
“We have apologized to Mr. Davis for his experience and continue to review our handling of incidents like this to protect our highest priority — the safety of our customers and crew,” United said in a July 30 statement.
Despite the alleged incident, Wall still shared updates of her wine-tasting tour throughout Italy via Instagram in May, showcasing her enthusiasm for wine and her expertise as a sommelier.
