Travis Scott’s high-energy concert in Milan sparked concerns about earthquake tremors, with 80,000 fans in attendance. This comes almost three years after the devastating Astroworld tragedy, which resulted in 10 fatalities.
The 33-year-old musician performed at Milan’s outdoor La Maura Hippodrome as part of his Utopia: Circus Maximus tour, with thousands of fans surrounding the stage. The event was marked by striking visuals and an electric atmosphere.
Although social media reports from the Milan area indicated that some people felt tremors on the night of the concert, no earthquakes were recorded by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

Scott took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the Milan crowd, saying, “LAST NIGHT WAS A DREAM… NO THIS ISNT FESTIVAL. THIS A SHOW ON THE TOUR.” He also thanked the audience for giving him their all, adding, “IN THE WORDS OF STROMBERG. MILAN YALL OWE ME NOTHING. YALL GAVE YALL ALL 80k OF YALL HAD THE BEST TIME EVER. CIRCUS MAXIMUS.”
The Utopia: Circus Maximus tour has been described as an unparalleled audiovisual experience, with Scott’s fourth studio album Utopia being the biggest-selling hip-hop release of 2023.
The musician has faced controversy in the past, with a crowd surge at his November 5, 2021, concert in Houston resulting in the deaths of 10 festivalgoers. Those killed ranged in age from 9 to 27 and died from compression asphyxia, similar to being crushed by a car.
Lawyers for the victims alleged that the deaths and hundreds of injuries were caused by negligent planning and a lack of concern over capacity and safety at the event. Scott, promoter Live Nation, and others who were sued have denied these claims, saying safety was their top concern.
After a police investigation, a grand jury declined to indict Scott, along with five others connected to the festival. In December 2021, Scott sat down with podcaster Charlemagne Tha God to discuss the tragedy.

In the interview, Scott blamed his “in-ear” person for not urging him to stop the show sooner and claimed that he wasn’t aware of or responsible for the fatal stampede and crowd crush. He said that he is “1000 percent” certain he did everything he could have to prevent the tragedy and claims he didn’t hear the screams and cries for help as the crowd went out of control.
Interestingly, Taylor Swift fans caused the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake with their raucous dancing at her shows on July 22nd and 23rd, 2023, at Seattle’s Lumen Field, according to an expert.

Speaking to CNN, Western Washington University geology professor and seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach said, “I grabbed the data from both nights of the concert and quickly noticed they were clearly the same pattern of signals. If I overlay them on top of each other, they’re nearly identical.”
Comparing Swift’s concert to 2011’s Beast Quake when Seattle Seahawk fans set a new noise record with their cheers and stomps for Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch, Caplan-Auerbach added, “Cheering after a touchdown lasts for a couple seconds, but eventually it dies down. It’s much more random than a concert. For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled the behavior.”
“The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can drive into the ground and shake it,” Caplan-Auerbach said.
