Travis Kelce sparked a whirlwind of speculation when he inadvertently brought Jake Gyllenhaal into the conversation while discussing the inspiration behind his girlfriend, Taylor Swift‘s song “Karma.”
During an appearance on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast episode released on Tuesday, June 25, Kelce, 34, joined hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan in ranking their top three favorite Taylor Swift songs. Compton, 34, included “Karma” from Swift’s 2022 Midnights album, citing it as his 2-year-old daughter Cerulean Belle’s favorite.
Intrigued, Kelce inquired, “Does she know who Karma is?” referring to Swift’s altered lyric in November 2023, where she changed the line to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs” instead of “Karma is the guy on the screen.”
Compton, visibly perplexed by the question, playfully blamed his daughter for his confusion.
“I don’t know if Rue knows who ‘Karma’ is about,” Compton said, using Cerulean’s nickname. “Isn’t ‘Karma’ about Gyllenhaal?” he added, alluding to Swift’s brief relationship with the actor in 2010, which has led to fan speculation that much of her Red album is about their breakup.
Kelce skillfully dodged the question, simply responding, “What happened?”
Compton and Lewan, 32, then engaged in a lighthearted back-and-forth about the lyric change, with Compton eventually recalling, “I know it’s changed. I know it’s about the boy now, right. I remember that one moment, that clip dropped, and she said that, and everybody’s going nuts. The camera pans over to Trav, and he’s kind of grinning in the backstage part.”
Kelce, laughing, attempted to steer the conversation in a different direction. However, he did reminisce about the Buenos Aires concert where Swift first performed the altered “Karma” lyrics.
“I was like, ‘Oh, wow,’” the NFL star recalled, using a mild expletive.
Swift, 34, and Kelce embarked on their romantic journey in September 2023, and they have since openly expressed their affection for each other in public.
Demonstrating his familiarity with Swift’s music, Kelce was spotted over the weekend enthusiastically dancing along to the Eras Tour choreography of “Karma.” The song is the final number before Swift exits the stage, and video footage from her recent London concert captured Kelce smiling and moving his arms and feet in sync with Swift’s dancers.
During the Tuesday episode of the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast, Kelce offered a glimpse into his relationship with Swift, sharing his thoughts on navigating their public romance.
“You want to maintain privacy, but at the same time, I’m not trying to hide anything,” Kelce gushed. “That’s my partner. That’s the woman I love, so I’m proud of that. I’m not trying to juggle how to keep this under wraps. It’s more about not letting everyone into your personal life and allowing them to comment on it, knowing that everything she does generates headlines.”
