Former England international Andros Townsend has spoken out about his transfer ordeal this summer, revealing that he is unsure which club owns him.
Townsend secured a move to Antalyaspor from Luton, but the Turkish club has been unable to register him due to a transfer ban. As a result, Townsend is unable to play for Antalyaspor, although he is permitted to train with the squad.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Townsend described his situation as “crazy.” He explained that he received a call from Antalyaspor just three days before the start of the season, informing him of their interest in signing him. However, the transfer was only completed just hours before the deadline, and by then, it was too late to register him due to the ban.
“I don’t know who owns me,” Townsend said. “I don’t know where my contract is, so yeah, that’s me. I can’t play, they can’t register me, they can’t officially announce me because they’ve got a transfer ban.”
Townsend, 33, has had a long and varied career, playing for numerous clubs including Tottenham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Everton. He has also earned 13 caps for England, scoring three goals.
The winger expressed his frustration with his current situation, saying, “I’m literally in a hotel at the training ground just training and keeping my head down.”
Antalyaspor hopes to resolve the issue soon, with the club reportedly owing money to two former players. Until then, Townsend remains in limbo, unsure of his future.
