The Nelons: A Legacy Cut Short
Tragedy Strikes as Three Members of Renowned Gospel Group Die in Plane Crash
In a devastating turn of events, three members of the iconic gospel family band The Nelons have lost their lives in a tragic plane crash, as announced by the surviving member of the group.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, along with her management team, shared the heartbreaking news on Saturday morning, revealing that her mother Kelly, stepfather Jason, and sister Amber were among those who perished in the crash en route to Alaska on Friday.
Also lost in the crash were Nathan Kistler, Amber’s husband, their assistant Melodi Hodges, pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa.
Autumn, the youngest Nelon daughter, was traveling separately with her husband, Jamie, and only learned of the tragedy when they landed in Seattle.
Autumn and her husband are now making their way back to her hometown to be with family during this difficult time.
In her statement, Autumn expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested continued prayers and well-wishes.
The Nelons, founded in the late 1970s by Rex Nelon, Kelly’s father, have been a staple in the gospel music industry for decades. Kelly took the reins after her father’s departure in 1999, with various family members and friends joining the group over the years.
Jason Clark joined the group in 1997 and married Kelly four years later, becoming the band’s lead singer. Amber joined in 2002, followed by Autumn in 2014.
The Nelons have enjoyed numerous Grammy nominations and were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2016. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash.
