Former ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant Perry Kurtz Dies at 73 After Tragic Hit-and-Run Accident

Perry Kurtz, a seasoned stand-up comedian and former America’s Got Talent contestant, has sadly passed away at the age of 73 following a fatal hit-and-run accident in California. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident, which occurred on August 15, when a teenager struck Kurtz while he was crossing the street in Tarzana.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death. An 18-year-old suspect was arrested and booked on Friday, August 16, in connection with the incident.
In the days leading up to the accident, Kurtz was spotted enjoying karaoke at Pat’s Cocktails Lounge near Los Angeles, where he took to the stage and shared his enthusiasm for having fun.

Kurtz, a Philadelphia native, began his comedy career in the early 1970s and went on to perform at various venues across the country. He was a regular headliner at Dangerfield’s in New York City, a comedy club owned by Rodney Dangerfield.
In 2013, Kurtz appeared on season 8 of America’s Got Talent, where he introduced himself as an “ex-male stripper” and performed a comedy routine. Although he didn’t advance in the competition, he received a warm reception from the audience.
Kurtz’s comedy career spanned decades, and he continued to perform at various venues in Southern California until his untimely death. He will be remembered for his witty humor and infectious enthusiasm.
