Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning Spark Interest as Their Hands Entwine During Filming of the Bob Dylan Biopic

Timothée Chalamet, known for his captivating performances, is taking on a new challenge as he steps into the shoes of a young Bob Dylan. Chalamet, alongside his costar Elle Fanning, was recently spotted in Hoboken, New Jersey, bringing to life a lesser-known intimate side of the music legend.

The talented duo, Chalamet, 28, and Fanning, 26, are portraying Dylan and his early ’60s girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, in the upcoming biopic, “A Complete Unknown.” On Wednesday, they were seen filming a scene, strolling down the sidewalk hand in hand, engrossed in a deep conversation.

The day before, Chalamet and Fanning had filmed a scene on the steps of a brownstone, donning winter jackets. This particular setup bore a striking resemblance to the iconic cover of Dylan’s 1963 sophomore album, “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.”

Chalamet, known for his versatile style choices, opted for a casual yet stylish ensemble. He wore a brown striped button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, paired with relaxed-fit jeans and a slim brown leather belt. His look was completed with a pair of well-worn dark brown cowboy boots, adding a touch of rugged charm.

Chalamet and Fanning, in character as Dylan and Rotolo, film a scene for the upcoming biopic, “A Complete Unknown,” in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Chalamet’s hair, styled in a fluffy curled hairdo, paid homage to Dylan’s iconic voluminous ’60s locks, though it leaned more towards the reserved hairdos of the early ’60s.

Fanning, on the other hand, opted for a casual yet chic look, donning a black tank top-style sweater that showcased her toned arms. She paired it with high-waisted dark blue jeans and sleek black loafers, exuding a sense of effortless elegance. A large, heavily scuffed brown handbag completed her ensemble.

Fanning’s normally blond hair had been transformed into a golden brown hue, styled with a side part and slightly wavy locks that gracefully draped across her shoulders. The two actors seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their on-screen chemistry, with Fanning bursting into laughter at something Chalamet said during their intimate conversation.

“A Complete Unknown,” directed and co-written by James Mangold of “Logan” and “Ford v Ferrari” fame, delves into Dylan’s journey to New York City in 1961 as he sought to establish himself as a folk singer.

The film explores Dylan’s remarkable artistic evolution during the first half of the decade, showcasing his transition from protest songs and folk standards to forming a band and embracing the electric sound.

This shift in his musical style was met with controversy at the time, as many fans of his introspective folk music were angered by his turn towards rock. However, this transition also marked the beginning of some of the greatest albums of that decade, which Dylan recorded in quick succession.

Fanning was also spotted filming a separate scene, donning a new costume. She exuded sophistication in a muted gray, black, and brown striped button-up blouse, elegantly tucked into a black midi skirt. Black stockings and modest black heels completed her look, while a brown and beige floral-print tweed jacket added a touch of warmth and style.

The costumes for the scene on the brownstone steps paid homage to the cover of “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan,” featuring Rotolo and Dylan in a loving embrace.

This particular scene may have been inspired by Rotolo’s extended trip to Italy with her mother in 1962, during which Dylan experienced profound loneliness. This period of separation sparked the creation of some of his most enduring early love songs, including “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” “One Too Many Mornings,” “Tomorrow Is A Long Time,” and “Boots Of Spanish Leather.”

Rotolo’s leftist upbringing is also said to have influenced Dylan’s political awakening in the early ’60s, and he credits her with introducing him to the works of Arthur Rimbaud and Bertolt Brecht, both of whom had a profound impact on his songwriting.

“A Complete Unknown,” co-written by Jay Cocks, is eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
