Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel are a musical duo whose romance has been a long time coming. According to Bechtel, she and Healy had been trying to meet for four years before fate finally brought them together in Los Angeles, where they quickly fell in love. The couple enjoys spending time in bed playing Fortnite and ordering takeout.
Healy, the frontman of The 1975, began dating Bechtel, a model and singer, in September 2023. Just three months prior, Healy had ended things with Taylor Swift, with whom he had a brief rekindled romance. Healy and Swift’s relationship dates back to 2014, and they reconnected in the spring of 2023 following Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn. Swift seemingly documented the breakup in her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department.
In the aftermath of TTPD‘s release, a source close to Healy shared with Us Weekly that Healy found the situation amusing and was “completely blindsided” by Swift’s songs, which alluded to their discussions about a future together. “He loves the attention it’s brought him, but he also finds it funny,” the source said, adding that Healy was surprised by Swift’s lyrics about baby carriages and cohabitation.
Healy, however, has kept his attention firmly on his relationship with Bechtel, and in June 2024, he took their relationship to the next level by popping the big question.

After Swift released TTPD, Healy’s aunt, Debbie Dedes, revealed that he wasn’t fazed by the apparent diss tracks. “He’s very happy in his new relationship, so I’m sure he’ll focus on that,” Dedes told the Daily Mail. She added that Swift tends to write about her relationships and that Healy wasn’t surprised by the songs, as they both knew what transpired between them.

Bechtel offered a glimpse into her relationship with Healy, sharing their mutual love for “good food” with E! News. She revealed that Healy had taught her a lot about cuisine and that she enjoyed cooking for him. One of her go-to dishes was a kale salad with pine nuts, Parmesan, and a sexy little skirt steak, accompanied by potato gratin.

On June 12, Bechtel confirmed that Healy had proposed, sharing the news on social media and showcasing her unique black diamond engagement ring. Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, also shared her excitement during an episode of the U.K.’s Loose Women. “He’s engaged to Gabriella Bechtel, known as Gabbriette. I couldn’t be happier. She’s from Los Angeles, and she’s absolutely stunning,” Welch gushed. She concluded by expressing her wholehearted approval of her future daughter-in-law.
