It’s been 15 years since the iconic crossover of three beloved Disney Channel shows, and now, behind-the-scenes drama between Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus has come to light.
In 2009, Disney Channel brought together three of its hit shows – Wizards of Waverly Place, starring Selena Gomez, Hannah Montana, starring Miley Cyrus, and The Suite Life on Deck, starring Dylan and Cole Sprouse – for a three-part special.
The crossover episode found Hannah Montana booking a teen cruise to get to a Hawaii concert, which coincidentally was the same cruise that Alex Russo (Gomez) and her siblings won a trip on from an essay contest, and the same cruise ship – the SS Tipton – that Zack (Dylan Sprouse) and Cody Martin (Cole Sprouse) lived on.
Interestingly, despite both Gomez, 32, and Cyrus, 31, appearing in the special, they didn’t share any scenes together – and it was reportedly by design.
Wizards of Waverly Place stars Jennifer Stone (Harper Finkle) and David DeLuise (Jerry Russo) recently discussed the special on their Wizards of Waverly Pod rewatch podcast, revealing some drama between the two Disney darlings.

When DeLuise was trying to explain, he caught a look from Stone and told her to ‘spill,’ asking if they didn’t get along during the shoot.
‘They were like frenemies. I mean, come on, it was high school. Like, they both dated the same guy,’ Stone said, referring to Nick Jonas.
She added, ‘I think Miley dated him first, and then Selena dated him, and then it was just messy high school drama.’
‘They’re fine now. They’re all good now. But, yeah, it was just high school nonsense,’ Stone insisted on the podcast.
Cyrus did, in fact, date Nick Jonas first, from 2006 to 2007, while Gomez and Jonas dated on and off from 2008 to 2010.
Gomez previously said in a 2016 interview with W that she ‘never feuded’ with Cyrus, adding, ‘We both liked the same guy when we were 16.’
Two years later, in 2018, Cyrus came to Gomez’s defense when Dolce & Gabbana’s Stefano Gabbana called Gomez, ‘so ugly.’
‘Well, what that dickhead said (if it’s true) is f***ing false and total bulls**t. She’s fine as f**k!’ Cyrus said in an Instagram comment.

They also reunited in 2020 on Cyrus’ Bright Minded podcast, where Cyrus revealed that they reconnected after a simple gesture: Gomez sending a butterfly emoji through DM.
‘I’m just really happy that we did this new DM. It was very sweet because you just sent a butterfly emoji,” Cyrus said.
‘And that’s enough. Connecting with people and letting them know that you’re there. A butterfly emoji is totally enough,’ she added.
The reunion over Instagram Live also found them both donating to non-profit organizations during the COVID-19 lockdown.
