Even celebrities like Jennifer Aniston struggle to find the perfect gift for their partner. In a recent interview, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver revealed that he was once tasked with helping Aniston plan a surprise birthday dinner for her then-husband Brad Pitt’s 40th birthday in 2003.
Oliver, who was 29 at the time, was approached by Aniston to cook a special meal for Pitt’s milestone birthday. The chef recalled that Aniston had to go through her agent to get in touch with him, as he didn’t have an agent at the time. “She phoned up, and we put the phone down on her three times because we didn’t believe it was her,” Oliver said. “We thought it was someone trying it on.”
It turned out that Pitt was a huge fan of Oliver’s cooking show, The Naked Chef, which aired from 1999 to 2001. Aniston asked Oliver to cook for Pitt, and he agreed, saying, “I’ll do it for love, because I love you guys.” Oliver has gone on to build a cooking empire, but he only cooks for celebrities if he’s working in a restaurant and they’re in, or if he’s asked by someone he loves or admires.
Oliver has kept in touch with the former couple and had nothing but praise for them. “They’re both beautiful people,” he said. “I saw Jen a couple of weeks ago, and she’s everything you would want her to be, and more.”
Oliver’s wife, Jools, previously spoke about the dinner in an interview with Red magazine in 2014. She recalled that Aniston’s Friends costar Courteney Cox was also present at the event. In the anecdote, Jools spoke about how awkward she felt making small talk with the group while her partner cooked.
