Jennifer Garner has spilled the beans on her intense workout regimen that helped her get back in shape for her iconic role as Elektra in the Marvel blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine.
The actress, who reprised her role in the box office titan, took to Instagram to share a montage of her grueling gym sessions with her 16.4 million followers.
In the caption, she confessed that before taking on the role, she was “fit, but not @marvel fit,” and joked that she hadn’t picked up Elektra’s signature sais since 2004, except to convince her kids’ preschool friends that she was secretly a ninja.
Garner’s fitness routine included boxing three times a week, Peloton rides, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to get her in top physical condition for the demanding role.

The 52-year-old actress — who reprised her role as Elektra for box office smash titan — appeared on Instagram on Monday to show her 16.4 million followers her intense regimen
Garner recalled the moment the idea for her cameo in the movie was sparked, describing how director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds shared “a crazy artistic kismet” that allowed them to communicate complex ideas with just a glance.
To prep for the role, Garner said she amped up her training with her stunt double and friend, Shauna Duggins, under the guidance of trainer Beth Nicely at The Limit Fit.
Her grueling gym schedule included boxing three times a week with trainer Flvco at Matchroom x Churchill Gym, as well as lots of Peloton rides with instructor Becs Gentry.
Garner joked that she and her stunt double had a “Super Hero Summer,” twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at their sore old bodies.
On a more sentimental note, she praised Levy and Reynolds for giving her the opportunity to bring closure to her character, saying they are “gifted in many ways, but seeing and elevating people around them is at the top of the list.”
Recalling her time on set, she gushed about being surrounded by old friends, including Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes.
Garner reposted an upload from Levy, who helmed the film, in her Instagram Stories.
