A heated confrontation turned physical during a recent women’s college soccer match, culminating in a shocking melee that was captured on video.
The intense incident occurred during a game between Rutgers and UMass, during a game at Rudd Field in Massachusetts.
Rutgers player Gia Girman committed a robust tackle on a UMass opponent, resulting in both players falling to the ground. As Girman attempted to get up, UMass’s Ashley Lamond approached to retrieve the ball near her feet.
The situation escalated quickly as Girman took exception to Lamond’s actions, sparking a violent exchange.
Girman, wearing red, and Lamond became entangled, exchanging shoves, hair-pulling, and several punches before crashing to the turf.
At one point, Girman pinned Lamond to the ground, continuing to throw punches until teammates intervened to separate the players.
As a result of the altercation, both Girman and Lamond were issued red cards and ejected from the game.
UMass ultimately emerged victorious, securing their first win of the season.
