Sienna Miller’s perspective on age differences in relationships shifted when she started dating her partner, Oli Green, who is significantly younger than her by 14 years.
“I didn’t anticipate developing serious feelings for him,” Miller, 42, revealed in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published on June 11, 2024, reflecting on the early days of their relationship. “But I fell in love rather quickly.”
Initially, when Miller met the 27-year-old Green at a Halloween party, she wasn’t intentionally seeking a partner in his age group. “I didn’t set out to find a younger man,” she clarified. “It was more like, ‘Darn! Why do you have to be so young? That’s so irritating!'”
The Horizon actress, who made her relationship with Green public in March 2022, eventually recognized that their age gap contributed to their compatibility. “There’s a noticeable difference in the way men of that generation respect women,” Miller observed. “While it’s unique to him, as he is incredibly mature and well-adjusted, I also believe it’s a reflection of his generation. They’ve grown up with a more level playing field.”
Miller reflected on her own coming-of-age experiences in the late 1990s, recalling a time when predatory male behavior often went unchecked. “I recall a time when I was younger and felt compelled to adapt my behavior to appease the men around me,” she said. “And heaven forbid you bruise a man’s ego by turning him down.”
The mother of two characterized her younger years as a “somewhat demeaning period” due to the power dynamics between men and women at the time. “It’s fascinating to be older now and witness how people who are younger than me set boundaries for themselves,” Miller remarked. “They possess a sense of self-assurance and self-advocacy, and they are unafraid to say ‘no’ when necessary, which is something we were not encouraged to do.”
Miller’s career success and extensive therapy have contributed to her sense of empowerment. “I feel much more balanced, settled, and wise,” she asserted.
Now in her 40s, Miller recognizes the value of her life experiences. “I’ve gained some wisdom from the challenges I’ve faced,” she shared. “The more complex and fascinating your life is, the more well-rounded you’ll become.”
This newfound self-awareness has also influenced her role as a mother. Miller shares an 11-year-old daughter, Marlowe, with her ex, Tom Sturridge, and a 5-month-old daughter with Green.
Miller described her eldest child as a “magical” person who embodies both her comedic side and the intensity inherited from her father’s brilliant mind.
While Miller admitted that her second pregnancy was unplanned, she had always wanted her daughter, Marlowe, to have a sibling. The arrival of her and Green’s baby girl has been a dream come true.
“I’m overjoyed,” she gushed about becoming a mother again. “It’s been a healing and transformative experience, which may sound like a cliché, but it’s grounded in the kind of life I want to lead.”
