The Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys are among several NFL teams that have not publicly recognized Pride Month on social media, despite the league and many other franchises embracing the annual LGBTQ+ celebration. While the Chiefs and Cowboys remain silent, other teams like the Detroit Lions have actively promoted their Pride Month apparel collections, and the Washington Commanders changed their profile picture to include rainbow colors.
The lack of acknowledgment from some teams stands in contrast to the NFL’s recent efforts to support the LGBTQ+ community. The league has released Pride gear, hosted Pride parties at the Super Bowl, and shared inclusive messages. However, the NFL also had to address anti-LGBTQ+ remarks made by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker during a graduation speech, with Chief Diversity Officer Jonathan Beane emphasizing that the league is “steadfast in [its] commitment to inclusion.”
Outside of the NFL, the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks have shown their support for Pride Month ahead of the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, in the MLB, all but one team is hosting a Pride Night, with the Texas Rangers facing criticism for their lack of participation and controversial slogan change during Pride Month.

While some teams have chosen not to publicly address Pride Month, they continue to sell Pride merchandise featuring their logos on the official NFL Shop. This includes t-shirts, hats, home décor, and other rainbow-themed products.

As Pride Month continues, it remains to be seen whether the silent teams will choose to publicly recognize and support the LGBTQ+ community. The NFL’s statement regarding Butker’s speech highlights the league’s commitment to inclusion, and it is likely that fans and advocates will be watching for further actions and statements from these teams.
