Scarlett Johansson Spills on the R-Rated Role She Turned Down to Protect Her Little Ones

Scarlett Johansson Refused a Lucrative Job to Protect Her Children’s Well-being

Scarlett Johansson, the talented actress known for her versatility in films like Vicky Cristina Barcelona, has revealed that she turned down a significant job opportunity to prioritize her children’s comfort and well-being.

The 39-year-old actress, who has two children, Rose Dorothy (9) and Cosmo (2), with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac and husband Colin Jost, respectively, felt that taking on the role would have been “strange” for her kids.

The job in question was voicing OpenAI’s chatbot, a project that Johansson found “disturbing” after she declined the offer. The Lost in Translation star was upset when the company launched a new chatbot called Sky with a voice eerily similar to her own.

In an interview with the New York Times, Johansson explained that she didn’t want to be involved in the project, citing concerns about her core values and the potential impact on her children.

“I felt I did not want to be at the forefront of that. I just felt it went against my core values. I don’t like to kiss and tell,” she said.

Johansson also expressed her concerns about deepfake technology, describing it as a “dark wormhole you can never climb your way out of.” She warned that if not handled carefully, such technology could have devastating consequences, especially for young people.

The actress’s new film, Fly Me to the Moon, co-starring Channing Tatum, is set to release soon.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman later clarified that the voice of Sky was not intended to mimic Johansson’s, and the company had paused using the voice out of respect for the actress.
