Royal Couple Donates to Caribbean Hurricane Relief Efforts: Obscured Gemstone Storm Aid

Prince William and Princess Kate are offering support after a devastating category 4 storm hit the Caribbean.

According to a People report on July 4, the royal couple privately donated to those impacted by Hurricane Beryl, which recently wreaked havoc in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. This storm claimed the lives of at least 10 people, as reported by Reuters.

William’s father, King Charles III, expressed his sadness over the destruction caused by the hurricane in several Commonwealth countries.

“My family and I are deeply saddened by the terrible destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl across the Caribbean,” the king said. “Our hearts go out to the loved ones of those who have tragically lost their lives.”

He added, “I am amazed by the unwavering resilience and solidarity shown by the people across the Caribbean in the face of such devastation, a spirit that has been tested too often. I also want to express my gratitude to the emergency services and volunteers who are working tirelessly to support rescue and recovery efforts.”

The king concluded, “During this difficult time, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all those whose lives, livelihoods, and properties have been devastated by this storm.”

Hurricane Beryl was the first major storm to hit Jamaica since 2007. According to an ABC News report, the hurricane is expected to reach Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, with weather alerts already in place near popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum.

William and Kate’s charitable donation comes at a challenging time for the royal family. Earlier this year, both Charles and Kate revealed their cancer diagnoses, although details about their health struggles have been kept private.

While Kate takes a step back from royal duties, William has provided updates on her condition during his public appearances. In May, he assured an administrator at St. Mary’s Community Hospital that Kate is “doing well” with her treatment.

The following month, Kate returned to the royal spotlight, joining her family at the annual Trooping the Colour in London. Before the event, she shared an update on her health journey.

“I am deeply grateful for the kind messages of support and encouragement I have received over the past few months. They have made a huge difference during some challenging times,” she said in a statement in June. “While I am feeling better, I am still receiving treatment, but I am looking forward to being able to work more in the months to come.”

She added, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in my care, as well as those who have sent their warm wishes. I am very grateful.”
