Oasis to Bypass Etihad Stadium Due to Ongoing Expansion
The highly anticipated Oasis comeback tour has hit a snag, as the band’s plans to perform at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium have been derailed by the venue’s ongoing expansion project.
Instead, die-hard City fans Noel and Liam Gallagher will take their iconic band to Heaton Park for a series of gigs, much to the delight of their fans. The Etihad Stadium was initially touted as a frontrunner to host several dates on the Oasis comeback tour, but the extensive renovation project has put those plans on hold.
The expansion project, which aims to increase the stadium’s capacity to 61,000 and include a 400-bed hotel, is expected to be completed as part of a £300m investment. While the north stand will open during the next season, the hotel and other works will not be finished in time for Oasis’ summer tour.
Noel and Liam Gallagher, who announced their reunion, are ardent Manchester City fans and are often spotted at home and away matches. Despite their allegiance to the club, they will have to look elsewhere to stage their comeback concerts.
Oasis will play four shows at Heaton Park and Wembley, with additional dates in Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Dublin. The 16-date schedule may be expanded to include further European events at a later date.
Heaton Park, which has a capacity of over 60,000, is no stranger to hosting high-profile concerts. The park has previously welcomed the likes of The Stone Roses, The Verve, and Liam Gallagher’s solo project.
