Roberto de Zerbi on Verge of Marseille Move After Premier League Snub

Roberto de Zerbi has agreed a deal to become the new Marseille manager, marking his first role since departing Brighton at the end of the season. The Italian coach had been linked to several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, but ultimately chose to pursue a new challenge in France.

De Zerbi’s impressive stint at Brighton, where he guided the club to a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification in his first season, caught the attention of many top European sides. However, a difficult second season saw the Seagulls finish 11th and exit the Europa League prematurely.

Following the conclusion of the Premier League season, De Zerbi expressed a desire to return to his native Italy. However, he has now opted to take on a new challenge in France with Marseille, who finished a disappointing eighth in Ligue 1 last season.

The 45-year-old will succeed Jean-Louis Gasset, who served as interim manager after Gennaro Gattuso’s sacking. De Zerbi will be tasked with improving Marseille’s league position and helping the club re-establish itself as a contender in French football.

With pre-season training approaching, De Zerbi will soon have the opportunity to implement his philosophy and tactics at his new club. The former Shakhtar Donetsk coach is known for his attacking style of play and will be eager to bring an exciting brand of football to the Orange Vélodrome.

De Zerbi’s move to Marseille adds another chapter to his already impressive managerial career. With a new league and a passionate fan base to impress, the Italian will be determined to hit the ground running and bring success to his new club.
