Robert Griffin III’s wife, Grete, has come out in support of her husband after he was unexpectedly let go from ESPN on Thursday. The 34-year-old former NFL quarterback was ousted from the network, much to his astonishment and that of many fans, as he even shared a clip from the movie ‘Friday’ on social media, in which John Witherspoon’s character says: ‘How the hell you going to get fired on your day off?’
‘Onto bigger and better things,’ Griffin’s wife, Grete, replied on social media, showing her support for her husband in this difficult time.
The couple has been married since 2018 and has three daughters together. Griffin also has a daughter from a previous relationship.
Griffin, who won the Heisman Trophy back in 2011 while playing college football for Baylor, was hired by ESPN in 2021 and still had two years left on his deal.

His salary was reportedly in the seven-figure range.
Sam Ponder, the host of ‘Sunday NFL Countdown,’ was also axed due to cost-cutting reasons, while retired Eagles center Jason Kelce was hired by the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
After being let go, Griffin expressed gratitude towards those who are still at his former employer in a lengthy post on social media.
‘Thankful for so many people in my time at ESPN that helped me grow because they are some of the best in the business,’ he shared on social media. ‘From the broadcast booth to the studio, especially the people many of you never see behind the camera.’
Griffin had two years remaining on his deal with the network. ESPN hired him him back in 2021
‘They are the REAL MVPs and sacrifice so much time with their families just to ensure people like myself in front of the camera even have the opportunity to shine. There were so many awesome experiences and moments that my family and I will never forget from these last 3 years.’
‘What people sometimes fail to realize is none of this is possible with you guys, the FANS. So THANK YOU to everyone who has supported my family throughout my playing days and broadcast careers so far. We love you guys and will continue to seek and defend the truth while telling athletes’ stories the right way.’
On Friday, Griffin followed up on his post with a separate one that reads: ‘When one door closes, another one opens. Trust God on your journey.’
