Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has broken his silence following his shocking firing from ESPN, hinting that he will soon be sharing his side of the story with his fans.
On Thursday, it was reported that Griffin and Sunday NFL Countdown host Samantha Ponder were both let go by the network as it approaches the end of its fiscal year.
Three days later, Griffin took to social media to express his gratitude to his supporters and tease an upcoming explanation about his firing.
“As I sit here with my family on this beautiful day, we are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from you guys over the last 72+ hours,” he wrote. “YOU GUYS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST.”

In his statement, Griffin continued, “Your support means everything to us, and I can’t wait to connect with you all directly about everything. I’ll be sitting down soon to chat with YOU, so make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel, drop all your questions here and under my latest video, and I’ll be answering them soon.”
Griffin was hired by ESPN three years ago after gaining interest from the network and rival FOX Sports.
He was strongly considered to be ESPN’s No 2 college football game analyst with Sean McDonough last season. However, the job ended up going to Greg McElroy.

Since then, Griffin’s stock had fallen – making him a prime candidate to be let go. While his seven-figure per year salary will be honored, his role has diminished to a point where ESPN decided against keeping him on despite having two years left in his deal.
After news of his firing surfaced, Griffin posted a clip from the movie ‘Friday’, in which John Witherspoon’s character says: ‘How the hell you get fired on your day off?’
Hours later, he posted a montage of himself reporting at a Clemson football game and expressed gratitude for his time at ESPN.
“There were so many awesome experiences and moments that my family and I will never forget from the last 3 years,” Griffin wrote. “What people sometimes fail to realize is none of this is possible without you guys, the FANS.”
“So THANK YOU to everyone who has supported my family through my playing days and broadcast career so far. We love you guys and will continue to seek and defend the truth while telling athletes’ stories the right way.”
