Over the weekend, the box office witnessed a thrilling battle between Blake Lively’s romantic drama, It Ends With Us, and her husband Ryan Reynolds’ Marvel adventure, Deadpool & Wolverine. While Lively’s film put up a good fight, it couldn’t quite dethrone the reigning champion, which secured the top spot with $54.2 million.
It Ends With Us, co-starring actor and director Justin Baldoni, earned a respectable $50 million in its first weekend, debuting at number two. This marks the first time in over three decades that a married couple has had their films top the box office, with the last instance being Bruce Willis’ Die Hard 2 and Demi Moore’s romantic drama Ghost in 1990.

Meanwhile, Twisters, an action adventure set in the midst of tornado country, came in third with $15 million. The film, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, has been a huge success, with a current total of $222.2 million domestically and $310 million globally.
Borderlands, a thriller based on the best-selling videogame, debuted in fourth place, earning a disappointing $8.8 million. The film, starring Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with Jack Black and Kevin Hart, received a dismal 9% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despicable Me 4 took fifth place, with the animated adventure earning an even $8 million. The film, starring the voices of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig as the heads of a bumbling crime family, continues to delight audiences.

Trap, starring Josh Hartnett, dropped to sixth place, earning $6.725 million over the weekend. Inside Out 2 continued to perform well, coming in seventh with $4.95 million in ticket sales.
Harold and the Purple Crayon, starring Zachary Levi, Lil Rey Howery, and Zooey Deschanel, dropped to eighth place, earning $3.1 million. Cuckoo, starring Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, debuted in ninth place, earning $3.01 million. Longlegs rounded out the top ten, collecting an even $2 million.
