This is not Pettigrew’s first encounter with the law. He has prior arrests, including a 2017 disturbance at a reported bar fight in Dallas and a 2018 accusation of aggravated assault in Pittsburgh over an unpaid limousine bill. The Pennsylvania charges were subsequently dropped.
A native of Tyler, Texas, Pettigrew was a stellar athlete in high school, excelling on both offense and defense. His talents earned him a spot at Oklahoma State, where he continued to shine as one of the country’s top tight ends. This led to his selection by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft.
Pettigrew’s NFL career was notable, starting in 85 out of 93 games and amassing impressive statistics, including 17 touchdown passes and 2,965 receiving yards. However, his time with the Lions came to an end in 2016 when he was released while recovering from a knee injury sustained the previous season.
Former Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew, pictured here in 2015, was arrested early Sunday morning in Dallas after a standoff with police.
Pettigrew’s most recent legal troubles resulted in his release from custody on Sunday afternoon, with charges of criminal mischief. The Dallas Police Department has not yet provided additional details regarding the incident.
This latest incident adds to a string of legal issues for the former NFL player, raising concerns about his well-being and the potential impact on his post-football life.
