- The 18-year-old was thrown straight into the team in friendly against Rangers
- His squad number was revealed, and he will follow in the footsteps of a legendary defender
Leny Yoro’s squad number at Manchester United has been revealed, just days after he completed his £52million move to Old Trafford. The 18-year-old centre-back was unveiled as United’s newest addition on Thursday and reported for his first pre-season training session the next day, meeting his teammates for the first time.
Erik ten Hag is keen to address last season’s dismal Premier League finish and is being heavily backed in the transfer market with incomings and the shifting of players deemed not good enough. Yoro was thrown straight into the team in United’s second pre-season match this summer against Rangers, where his squad number was revealed.

The 18-year-old will wear the No 15 shirt, having worn it last season with former club Lille
Yoro will wear the No 15 shirt, having worn it last season with former club Lille. The number was famously worn by former defender Nemanja Vidic, who went on to become a United legend. The Serbian won five Premier League titles and the Champions League among other trophies, and fans will hope Yoro will replicate that success during his time at Old Trafford.
Sergi Reguillon wore the number prematurely last season before he returned to Tottenham in January. Marcel Sabitzer, Andreas Pereira, Adnan Januzaj, and Daley Blind are among others who have worn the No 15 shirt at United in recent years.

Speaking after completing his transfer to Old Trafford, Yoro said: ‘Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour. Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.’
‘I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new teammates. I cannot wait to get started.’
He becomes United’s second signing of the summer after Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee moved to Old Trafford for £36.5m.
