Winona Ryder, a veteran actress, began her acting career as a teenager in the mid-1980s. However, she has expressed frustration with some of her younger co-stars, who seem to lack enthusiasm for filmmaking.
Ryder was only 15 when she made her feature-film debut in the 1986 film Lucas, and 17 when she played Lydia Deetz in 1988’s Beetlejuice. She has since become a seasoned actress, but her experience with younger co-stars has been disappointing.
Winona Ryder started her acting career as a teenager back in the mid 1980s, though she isn’t too pleased with the current generation of her teenage co-stars
In a recent interview, Ryder revealed that some of her younger co-stars seem more interested in the length of a film shoot than the art of filmmaking itself. “I don’t mean to sound so hopeless. There are a few that are just not interested in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?'” she said.
While Ryder didn’t specify which co-stars she was referring to, she did mention that her Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard is an exception, being “obsessed with Elliot Gould.”
The 52-year-old actress was just 15 when she made her feature-film debut in the 1986 film Lucas, and 17 when she played Lydia Deetz in 1988’s Beetlejuice, a role she reprises in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, in theaters September 6
Ryder also expressed her admiration for the rich history of film and photography, hoping that the younger generation will study and appreciate it. “I just think there was such an abundance: the history of film, the history of photography, it’s so rich, and there’s so much there, and I don’t mean we should go backwards, but I wish and I hope that the younger generation will study that,” she said.
Her comments come after her Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown made similar remarks, expressing her lack of interest in watching movies, even her own.
Her Stranger Things co-star Finn Wolfhard is reportedly, ‘obsessed with Elliot Gould,’ though it seems many of other younger co-stars don’t have the same passion for film.
Ryder also joked about feeling like she’s from a different generation, saying, “And part of me thinks, ‘Gosh, am I like vaudeville at this point?’ Like (elderly lady voice), ‘Hey, kids, turn down the music!'”
Despite her frustrations, Ryder expressed her love for her Stranger Things co-stars, saying, “Ten years! I never thought. I was like, ‘I don’t want to be doing this when I’m in my fifties!’ It’s nuts, and its extra nuts to be my age. But I love the boys and I love [the actors] Sadie (Sink) and Maya (Hawke). It’s been really wonderful.”
