Emerging rapper Julio Foolio (born Charles Jones) has passed away at the young age of 26. The sad news was confirmed by his attorney, Lewis Fusco, to News4JAX in Tampa on June 23rd, 2024.
According to WTSP-TV, Tampa law enforcement responded to a shooting incident at the Holiday Inn Tampa North early on Sunday morning. Jonee Lewis, a spokesperson for the Tampa Police, later revealed that two vehicles were targeted in the shooting, resulting in four individuals being struck by gunfire.
News4JAX also reported that, according to Fusco, Jones was celebrating his birthday, which fell on the previous Friday, and was staying at an Airbnb with friends.
In a series of Instagram Stories posted on Sunday, Jones chronicled the events leading up to the tragic shooting. In one post, he mentioned that the police had shut down their Airbnb celebration and asked them to leave. In another, he expressed his gratitude for a memorable birthday celebration and invited his followers to join him at an upcoming show.
Fusco elaborated on the events, explaining that the group had to vacate the Airbnb due to an excessive number of guests. Subsequently, they relocated to a Holiday Inn, where Jones was unfortunately ambushed and shot in the parking lot.
The final known video from Jones, uploaded just two hours before the tragic incident, shows him enjoying his birthday festivities with a group of friends, each holding red cups.
The shooting also injured three others, who were hospitalized and are currently in stable condition, according to Tampa police officials.
Fusco issued a statement regarding Jones’s death, requesting privacy for the family during this challenging time. He also noted that additional details would be made available once they become a matter of public record.
News4JAX reported that Jones had a history of being a target, having been shot twice in Jacksonville within the past three years.
With over 1 million Instagram followers, Jones proudly identified as an “independent artist.” His latest musical offering, an album titled Resurrection, was released on April 5th and featured 14 tracks. Fans of the late rapper expressed their sorrow and shock on his social media, reflecting on the fleeting nature of life.
