Justin Timberlake has faced backlash on social media after his lawyer claimed the singer was not intoxicated during his DWI arrest in the Hamptons in June.
The 43-year-old singer was arrested on June 18 after allegedly running a stop sign and veering out of his lane while driving a 2025 BMW X7 in Sag Harbor, New York. According to a court document, Timberlake told the officer he had one martini and was following some friends home, but was later charged with a driving-while-intoxicated misdemeanor.
Fans were quick to criticize the star’s defense, with one writing: “Wink wink right ????? Let’s prove one more time to the world ‘if you have enough money and influence I get to embarrass a cop and get away with anything’ way too loser.”
Another fan questioned why Timberlake refused breathalyzer testing if he was not intoxicated, writing: “If I weren’t intoxicated and had one drink I would have no issue taking one.”
Justin Timberlake fans reacted as his lawyer claimed the star was ‘not intoxicated’ on the night of his DWI arrest in the Hamptons in June in a court hearing on Friday
Timberlake, 43, was arrested on June 18 about 12:30 when a Sag Harbor Village Police Department officer stopped him in the village in New York’s Hamptons after he allegedly ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane while driving a 2025 BMW X7, according to a court document; seen in April in Vancouver
Another fan wrote: “JUSTICE FOR JUSTIN” while another claimed the star was “hammered.”
One fan accused Timberlake of trying to shift the blame, writing: “In another words, it’s the cops fault how there can be working that night and stop a car ran a stop sign and he knew who Justin Timberlake was and he targeted him. Is that what he’s saying????? Shame on Justin Timberlake.”
Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., claimed in court that prosecutors failed to get a superior officer’s signature on the initial charging papers, and therefore the case should be dropped.
Burke stated: “The police made a number of very significant errors in this case. In court today, you heard the district attorney try to fix one of those errors. But that’s just one and there are many others. Sometimes the police make mistakes and this is just one of those instances.”
Timberlake was not present in court on Friday and is expected to appear virtually on August 2 for arraignment on one count of DWI.
According to court papers, Timberlake’s allegedly intoxicated condition was detailed, stating: “His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
The star allegedly muttered, “This is going to ruin the tour,” which prompted the officer to ask, “What tour?” to which Timberlake replied, “The world tour.”
After being arrested and taken to a police station, Timberlake refused a breath test, according to court papers, which listed his occupation as “professional” and said he’s “self-employed.”
Fans quickly took to social media to lambast the star’s defense, with one writing: ‘Wink wink right ????? Let’s prove one more time to the world “if you have enough money and influence I get to embarrass a cop and get away with anything” way too loser’
The memes came flooding in after Timberlake’s defense was revealed.
