NFL Star Unveils Painful Split from Basketball Pro: ‘Imperfectly Yours’

Former NFL star Darren Waller has opened up about his recent divorce from WNBA champion Kelsey Plum, reflecting on the role he played in their marriage’s demise.

Waller, who retired from football last month after an eight-season career, shared his thoughts on the breakdown of his one-year marriage during an interview with Power 105.1’s ‘The Breakfast Club.’

The 31-year-old former tight end acknowledged that he had to “look in the mirror” and examine his own actions following the end of his relationship with Plum. He attributed the repeated patterns in his relationships to issues with co-dependency and tying his self-worth to the success of his romantic partnerships.

Waller also implied that making Plum “the center of his universe” was “unhealthy” for both individuals in the relationship.

He expressed his respect for Plum’s decision to move on and acknowledged the need for self-improvement. Waller and Plum tied the knot in March 2023, but their relationship reportedly broke down the following month.

Plum, a 29-year-old point guard for the Las Vegas Aces, shared a cryptic message on social media at the time, expressing her devastation and gratitude for the support of her family and friends. She also hinted at a future desire to share her story but asked for grace and privacy in the meantime.

Waller responded to Plum’s comments, acknowledging that she “has every right to express herself” and taking responsibility for his own actions that may have caused harm. He emphasized his commitment to self-improvement and moving forward.

Waller concluded his NFL career with impressive statistics, including 350 receptions for 4,124 yards and 20 touchdowns.
