Fabian Schär has sent a clear message to England, urging them to look elsewhere for their next manager and leave Newcastle’s Eddie Howe alone. With Gareth Southgate’s expected departure from the England team after Euro 2024, Howe has emerged as the frontrunner to take his place.

However, Fabian Schär, a regular under Howe at Newcastle, wants him to stay put. Schär, a Newcastle defender and Swiss international, praised Howe for his impressive work at the club, taking them from 19th place to the Champions League in just 19 months.

Schär said, ‘I actually hope he will stay at Newcastle. Because if you look at the work he has done at Newcastle over the last few years, he has a lot of quality and knows how to manage a big club and a big team.’

Schär continued, ‘For me as well, he has done a fantastic job. I am really happy to have him as my manager. I just hope he stays at Newcastle, that’s all I can say.’

Schär also dismissed the idea that Switzerland are facing an out-of-form England side and should be considered favorites for the game. ‘No matter how they’ve played, they’re in the quarterfinals,’ he said. ‘They can hurt their opponents at any time, so we need to be prepared for that.’

He added, ‘I wouldn’t underestimate England. They’ve seen us play in the last few games, they know our strengths, but for Switzerland, it would be great to show what we’re capable of.’
