Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has responded to a resurfaced clip of him accusing Arsenal of having “no strategy” after their 2-0 loss to Brentford on the opening day of the 2021-22 season.
The clip, which was posted on social media, showed Neville speaking on Sky Sports after the match, criticizing Arsenal’s “poor recruitment” and lack of “vision.” However, since then, Arsenal has turned their fortunes around, finishing second in the league twice in a row.
In response to the resurfaced clip, Neville posted a sarcastic six-word reply saying “Congratulations on your success, well done” and inserting a trophy emoji at the end of the reply.
The original clip showed Neville speaking on Sky Sports after Arsenal’s defeat to Brentford, where he criticized the team’s recruitment and direction. He said, “I don’t know the plan at Arsenal. The recruitment to me has been really poor – they’re poor at it compared to other clubs. I don’t get the strategy. I don’t get the direction of how they’re taking the team.”
Despite Neville’s criticism, Arsenal has made significant progress under Mikel Arteta, finishing second in the league twice in a row and competing in a relentless run-in with Manchester City last season. Arsenal fans will be hoping the team breaks their trophy duck during the 2024-25 season.
