Napoli is on the verge of securing the signature of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, with the Serie A club’s directors set to hold talks with the Blues in London.
According to reports, Napoli’s top brass will meet with Chelsea officials in the next 24 hours to finalize the deal, which would see Lukaku reunite with former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte.
Lukaku, who has two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, is valued at around £36 million, a fee that Napoli is willing to meet. The 31-year-old has spent the past two seasons on loan in Italy, playing for Inter Milan and Roma respectively.
The Belgian international has an impressive goal-scoring record in Italy, netting 24 league goals in the 2020-21 season as Inter won the Serie A title under Conte. He also scored 23 league goals in the previous campaign.
Lukaku’s potential move to Napoli would bring an end to his second stint at Chelsea, where he has scored 15 goals in 59 appearances. He has also played for Everton and Manchester United in the Premier League.
Chelsea, meanwhile, remains in talks with Napoli over the potential signing of Victor Osimhen, a deal that would be separate from the Lukaku transfer. Osimhen boasts an impressive record of 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli but was left out of their opening Serie A game against Hellas Verona.
The Blues are eager to offload players to reduce their bloated squad, with Lukaku’s potential exit likely to pave the way for further departures.
