Jose Mourinho made a dramatic entrance to the Turkish Super Lig, getting booked just 20 minutes into his first league game in charge of Fenerbahce. The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan manager was appointed as the Turkish giants’ boss this summer, replacing Ismail Kartal.
Mourinho’s fiery personality was on full display as he remonstrated with the referee and fourth official on several occasions, ultimately earning himself a yellow card. The 61-year-old’s frustrations boiled over when a decision went against his team, and he was left infuriated by the referee’s call.
Fans were loving the drama, with many taking to social media to praise Mourinho’s passion and commitment. “Jose, please, never change,” one fan tweeted, while another added, “Mourinho is gonna pure cinema all season and I must watch.”
Despite the drama, Fenerbahce went on to win the game against Adana Demirspor 1-0, with former Manchester City star Edin Dzeko scoring the winning goal. Mourinho’s side is hoping to win the domestic title for the first time since 2013-14.
The Portuguese coach has already overseen three Champions League games, with Fenerbahce beating Swiss side Lugano 6-4 on aggregate in the second qualifying round. They lost the first leg of their third qualifying round tie against Lille 2-1 last week.
Mourinho’s booking comes after he was also cautioned during the 2-1 defeat by Lille last week. The former Roma boss is known for his fiery personality, and it seems he’s bringing that same energy to the Turkish Super Lig.
