In a heartwarming display of self-acceptance, Maren Morris proudly proclaimed her bisexuality to the world on Sunday, sharing her truth with her 3.9 million social media followers. The Grammy-winning artist, 34, took to Instagram to celebrate LGBTQAI Pride Month, writing, ‘Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+, happy pride!’ This announcement came after her performance in Phoenix, AZ, where she boldly expressed her support for the community.
Maren’s bold declaration was met with an outpouring of love and encouragement from her current opening act, Allison Ponthier, as well as fellow songstresses Kate Yeager, Lindsay Ell, Marielle Kraft, and Heather Mae. Their supportive comments underscored the importance of visibility and acceptance within the music industry.
The singer-songwriter has never shied away from showcasing her affection for her female friends. This includes a tender moment captured in an April 23rd snapshot, where she is seen kissing photographer Sonya Jasinski with their arms lovingly wrapped around each other.
The Grammy-winning artist expressed her joy at being part of the LGBTQAI community.
Maren’s journey as an outspoken ally for the LGBTQAI community began in 2022. She has since partnered with GLAAD and served as a guest judge on the Emmy-winning reality competition RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2023. Her advocacy extends beyond words, as she proudly performed at the Love Rising benefit in Nashville last year, protesting Tennessee legislation targeting cross-dressing performers, trans youth, and same-sex marriage.
The Texan-born millennial has also involved her four-year-old son, Hayes Andrew Hurd, in her support for the community. She brought him to a ‘completely family-friendly’ drag show, boldly declaring onstage, ‘Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, you can do what you want.’
In the face of backlash, Maren stood her ground, addressing the ‘save the children’ argument in an Instagram story a month later. She highlighted the presence of gowns in Catholicism, makeup and powdered wigs in theater, and beloved characters like Mrs. Doubtfire, emphasizing that drag is a centuries-old performance art form with some adult-only content.
Maren’s announcement comes four months after her divorce from country crooner Ryan Hurd was finalized. The former couple, who had a prenup, separated in October 2022 after five years of marriage. They first met in 2013 while co-writing Tim McGraw’s 2014 track ‘Last Turn Home.’
With 11.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Maren is set to continue her 40-date tour, with her next stop at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, on Tuesday.
