Manchester City are reportedly preparing to offer Phil Foden a staggering new contract worth an incredible £375,000 per week, which would make him the highest-paid British player in football history.
Foden, still only 24, has become a key figure for both club and country in recent seasons. Following Kevin De Bruyne’s injury-plagued campaign, Foden stepped up as City’s primary creative force, playing a pivotal role in their record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title triumph.
The talented midfielder netted an impressive 19 goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League last season, earning him the prestigious FWA Footballer of the Year award for the first time in his burgeoning career.
Manchester City are reportedly set to offer Phil Foden a lucrative new contract
Foden’s current contract, signed in 2022, already sees him earn in excess of £200,000 per week, including bonuses. However, with interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, City are keen to tie him down to a new deal that reflects his immense value to the team.
According to The Sun, the proposed contract would see Foden earn wages comparable to those of De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, City’s current top earners. The deal would also keep Foden at the club until his 30th birthday in 2030.
The proposed deal would make Foden the highest-paid British player ever
Before focusing on his club future, Foden will be a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2024. Speaking ahead of England’s opening match against Serbia on Sunday, Foden emphasized the importance of team cohesion and understanding for success in major tournaments.
“Look, as an example: a new manager comes into a team and there are new players,” Foden told Mail Sport. “Sometimes, for that season, it’s not going to work until they learn off each other. I feel that’s what the manager has been building with England—building connections.”
Foden’s new deal would put him among City’s highest earners
“Over the last few seasons, we’re getting better as a team. Because you’re not there long, it takes a little bit more time. I see the team as very strong now and understanding each other a lot more.
“Sometimes in those big games, football is about small margins. A big moment. A player can create something from nothing or something goes against you.”
