Patrik Mahomes Shuts Down Claims That Taylor Swift Is a Distraction for the Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has dismissed reports suggesting that Taylor Swift’s relationship with teammate Travis Kelce has been a distraction for the team.
In an interview for the documentary “America’s Game,” Mahomes addressed the rumors surrounding Swift’s impact on the team’s performance. “People act like it was a distraction… I was like no, this is just Travis man,” Mahomes said, downplaying the idea that Swift’s presence has been a hinderance to the team.
Mahomes also praised Kelce’s work ethic, saying, “When you have a guy like Trav dating one of the most famous people in the world, I think it’s just because he’s such a good dude. It’s true, it’s real, he’s outside the building doing his stuff, but when he’s in the building he’s working his tail off to be the best of the best.”
Patrick Mahomes isn’t bothered by Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s public romance at games
Mahomes went on to say that the team embraces distractions, rather than letting them get in the way. “When your Hall of Fame tight end is your hardest worker, it leads everybody else. It’s not even like it’s a distraction. Why not embrace it? Embrace being that show that comes to town that gets to play against the best of the best and get the best from every single team.”
Swift and Kelce’s romance has been highly publicized since she attended her first Chiefs game on September 24, 2023. She went on to attend 12 more games, including Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The Chiefs won 10 of the 13 games she attended, leading some to speculate that she has been a good luck charm for the team.

Swift’s presence has also been good for business, with Chiefs owner Clark Hunter revealing that the team’s fanbase has grown by 30% since she started attending games.

ESPN reporter Holly Rowe has also come to Swift’s defense, arguing that she has brought a new level of excitement to the NFL. “She brought a lot of friends and family to those football games that maybe wouldn’t have before,” Rowe said. “As a football person, I’m like, ‘The more, the merrier.’ Keep bringing ’em because we want to get as many women loving and involved in football as possible.”
The Chiefs’ first game of the 2024-25 season will be against the Baltimore Ravens, a rematch of the AFC Championship game from earlier this year.
