Tim Leach and his partner, Mark Dammann, are thrilled by the overwhelming response from fans after their nostalgic Supermarket Sweep appearance resurfaced online.

“It’s astonishing to see how much attitudes towards gay couples have shifted since we first appeared on the show,” Leach, 64, said in a recent interview. “Now, it’s lovely to see people taking an interest in our story, and it’s been a real treat.”

In 1991, Leach and Dammann competed together on the popular grocery-themed game show Supermarket Sweep, initially joining the show as a way to supplement their income. During their introduction, they presented themselves as “business partners” who “design sets for plays,” but a keen-eyed social media user who stumbled upon a rerun of the episode saw right through their ruse.

“I love watching old episodes of Supermarket Sweep, and these two claiming to be just ‘business partners’ who ‘design sets for plays’ is just too funny,” the fan quipped on social media.

Today, Leach and Dammann reside in Chicago, working as flight attendants, but they previously ran a successful business designing and painting backdrops for plays together for nearly three decades. The couple met in Galveston, Texas, before relocating to Southern California, and eventually tied the knot in 2008. They appeared on Supermarket Sweep during their early days in the Golden State.

“We were just getting to know California, and it was exciting to see listings in the Los Angeles Times for game show contestants,” Leach recalled. “It was different back then, and we thought, why not try to make some extra money? Let’s go on these shows and see if we can win something. That was the first one, and Mark even appeared on Win, Lose or Draw too.”
