Just a year ago, Jarell Quansah was an unknown entity in Liverpool’s squad, but fast forward to today, and the 21-year-old has become a shining star in the Reds’ defense.
Quansah’s meteoric rise from academy player to first-team regular is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He was part of Liverpool’s tour of the United States this summer, putting in impressive performances that have surely put him in contention to be the team’s No 2 centre back alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.
When asked if he ever feels like an imposter, Quansah confidently replied, “Never imposter, nah. Never anything like that.” He has every right to be confident, given his rapid rise to prominence.

Quansah’s calmness on the ball and defensive prowess have impressed many, including Liverpool’s new boss Arne Slot, who is excited to coach the youngster to the next level.
With Joel Matip leaving the club on a free transfer this summer, many thought centre back would be the main area Liverpool targeted to improve this season. However, Quansah’s development could save the Reds £75million, which is the premium for a top-quality centre half these days.
When asked about his rise, Quansah said, “I probably haven’t realised it how everyone would have thought I’d realised. It has not been a realisation of how I’ve done so far but a realisation that I’m capable of playing at the level.”

Quansah’s determination to learn and improve is evident in the way he studies the game. He has been known to ask for drone footage and wide-angle shots of Van Dijk’s defending, and he also studies the likes of John Stones, Sergio Ramos, and Leonardo Bonucci to see how they move off the ball.
He has even been described as someone who will “go on a mad one” and study clips of South American defenders to learn from as many different types of players as he can.
Quansah’s hard work has not gone unnoticed, with former England boss Gareth Southgate a big fan of the young defender. He was asked to stick around and train with the group ahead of the European Championship even after the preliminary squad was trimmed.
Quansah’s rise to prominence is a testament to his dedication and passion for the game. He is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and determination.
