Liverpool Whizkid’s Shocking Pick for England’s Top Job, Plus a Heartfelt Nod to an ‘Underappreciated’ Legend

Trent Alexander-Arnold Reveals His Top Choice for England Manager

The Liverpool star has spoken out about who he would like to see take the reins as England manager, following Gareth Southgate’s departure from the role.

Southgate stood down as England boss just 48 hours after the team’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, bringing an end to his eight-year tenure in the role.

Alexander-Arnold, who has earned 29 senior caps under Southgate, paid tribute to the former manager, describing him as “underrated” and praising the “incredible” job he did during his time in charge.

But who would Alexander-Arnold like to see take over from Southgate? In an interview with The Mirror, the 25-year-old revealed that he would love to see his current club manager, Jurgen Klopp, take the reins.

Alexander-Arnold said of Klopp: “I enjoyed every moment I worked with him, we shared amazing memories, forged an amazing relationship, an amazing bond. So of course if that were to happen, we would pick up where we left off.”

However, he admitted that he would be surprised if Klopp were to take the job, given that the German has recently announced his departure from Liverpool and seems to be enjoying his time off.

The most likely candidates to replace Southgate are thought to be Graham Potter, Eddie Howe, and Lee Carsley, although the search for a new manager is ongoing.

Alexander-Arnold reflected on Southgate’s reign, saying: “I can only be thankful for every opportunity I have been given and the memories that we have shared. I do think Gareth is underrated. I think the England manager’s job is one of the hardest jobs there is.”

He added: “The way he has driven the team and the environment for the players is there for everyone to see. There was unity, everyone came together as a team, but every manager does come in for criticism.”

Alexander-Arnold’s comments come as the search for a new England manager continues, with the Football Association keen to find the right man to lead the team to success in the future.
