Liverpool Announces 28-Man Squad for USA Tour Amidst Senior Player Absence
Liverpool has named its squad for the upcoming pre-season tour of the United States, with 11 senior players missing due to their involvement in Euro 2024 and the Copa America. The Reds will take on Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United in three friendlies across the pond.
Arne Slot, Liverpool’s manager, has had to rely heavily on youth, naming a 28-man squad that includes several youngsters who will be vying for minutes. The squad will travel from Manchester Airport, with key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Diogo Jota missing due to their holidays.
Mo Salah and Andy Robertson are among the senior players who have made the cut, but they will be joined by a plethora of youngsters, including Ben Doak, Viteslav Jaros, James McConnell, Luke Chambers, Marcelo Pitaluga, Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck, Amara Nallo, Lewis Koumas, Tyler Morton, Harvey Blair, Luca Stephenson, Harvey Davies, and Trey Nyoni.
The squad will face Real Betis at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Saturday, followed by a match against Arsenal at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on August 1. Their final test in the USA will see them take on Manchester United at the Williams Brice Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Liverpool will also play a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on August 11, their final match before taking on Ipswich in their Premier League season opener at Portman Road on August 17.
Young Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark will miss out due to injury issues, but the tour provides a great opportunity for the youngsters to prove themselves and stake a claim for a spot in the first team.
With the likes of Joe Gomez, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Ibrahima Konate absent due to their involvement in the Euro 2024, and Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister, and Luis Diaz missing due to playing in the Copa America, the tour will be a test of the team’s depth and resilience.
