Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s left back, has made a shocking revelation about his recent performances on the pitch. The Scotland captain confessed that he played through pain for the entirety of Liverpool’s title run-in last season and Scotland’s European Championship campaign this summer.
The 30-year-old suffered an ankle ligament injury while playing for Scotland in March, which forced him to fight through the pain barrier to participate in matches. ‘I felt really good against Ipswich (on Saturday), all things considered,’ he said. ‘I was playing in pain from March onwards. It was a really important time for the club and then a really important time for my country.’
Robertson’s determination to play through the pain is admirable, but it’s clear that the injury took a toll on his body. He was spotted hobbling out of stadiums on several occasions after matches, and was eventually forced to miss Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Despite the setback, Robertson is now pain-free for the first time in five months. He’s eager to put the injury behind him and focus on the new season. ‘I managed to get my fitness up to a really good level in terms of not being with the team, which was hugely frustrating. But I made sure I was in America, in every team meeting going, asking the coaches questions and trying to learn even when I could not be on the pitch.’
Robertson’s contract will expire in June 2026, by which point he will be 32. He’s just two games away from making his 300th appearance in a Reds shirt, a remarkable achievement considering he signed for the club for a mere £8million in 2017.
A recent book revealed that Liverpool had doubts over Robertson’s defensive abilities when he first joined the club. However, Jurgen Klopp fought back by saying he didn’t care if Robertson could defend or not, he wanted his left back to attack.
Robertson’s determination and perseverance are an inspiration to his teammates and fans alike. As he looks to put the injury behind him and focus on the new season, fans will be hoping that their star left back can continue to make a significant impact on the pitch.
