Neil Lennon Sacked as Manager of Rapid Bucharest After Disastrous Three-Month Spell
Neil Lennon, the former Celtic boss, has been fired as manager of Rapid Bucharest after a disastrous three-month stint in charge of the Romanian club. Lennon had signed a two-year deal with Rapid in May, hoping to reignite his managerial career abroad. However, his side failed to win any of their opening six matches in the new season, leading to his swift departure.
Lennon’s tenure was marred by controversy, including denying speculation that he had fallen out with former club captain Cristian Sapunaru. He also had to deny claims that he had urinated on the pitch during a training session, describing the story as “completely fabricated.”
The former Celtic boss had insisted that he had no intention of quitting his post despite Rapid’s poor start to the season. However, the decision was eventually taken out of his hands when Rapid announced they had parted company with him.
Lennon’s departure is another blow to his managerial career, which has hit the rocks over the past few years. He was previously sacked by Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia after only seven months at the helm.
Rapid Bucharest has already named Lennon’s successor, club legend Marius Sumudica. In a statement, the club thanked Lennon for his dedication and energy during his time at the club, wishing him much success in the future.
Lennon’s managerial career has been marked by controversy and disappointment, and his latest setback is likely to raise questions about his future in the sport.
