T.J. Holmes was among the many fans who were rooting for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck‘s relationship to work out. When he found out that Lopez had filed for divorce, he was devastated and immediately texted his girlfriend Amy Robach in the middle of the night to break the news.
On his podcast “Amy & T.J.,” Holmes revealed that he didn’t believe the rumors about Lopez and Affleck’s marital issues leading up to the divorce filing. In fact, he would often “roll his eyes” whenever Robach tried to give him updates on the couple’s relationship.

Lopez and Affleck initially got engaged in 2002 but called off their wedding in 2004. After nearly two decades and several marriages and divorces between them, the couple reunited in 2021 and eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022.
Holmes and Robach, who were both still legally married when news of their romance broke in November 2022, have said they understand the pain of having multiple divorces and putting in the work to create a blended family only to have it fall apart.
Robach recalled being on the set of GMA3 with Holmes and George Stephanopoulos the day after Lopez and Affleck tied the knot. Stephanopoulos had predicted that the marriage would only last six months, which turned out to be eerily accurate.
Holmes said he hates the mindset of waiting for love stories to fail, calling Lopez and Affleck’s split “heartbreaking.”
“Almost [feels like] there’s glee in someone else’s demise and that pain,” he said. “I was rooting for them.”
