Jurgen Klopp is savoring his time away from the football pitch, having bid farewell to Liverpool at the end of last season. The German has poured cold water on the possibility of taking over as the next England manager, and has also provided an update on his coaching future.
Klopp was considered one of the top candidates to succeed Gareth Southgate, who departed after the Three Lions’ defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. However, the 57-year-old has shut down any speculation about taking the reins, at least for now.
When asked about the England job, Klopp seemed to rule out the possibility, stating, “It would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if someone said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you’.” He also added that there are no current job prospects, neither for a club nor a country, and that some people must have missed that part of his previous statement.

Klopp did, however, express his desire to return to football in some capacity, stating, “I’ll do some work. I’m too young to just do padel tennis and grandchildren.” He added that while he’s not ruling out coaching again, he’s not making any promises at this point, and that his focus is on enjoying his break.
No doubt, Klopp’s words will pique the interest of top clubs, who may have to wait patiently for his return. The legendary Liverpool boss stunned fans by announcing his departure halfway through last season, and steered the Reds to a top-four finish and Carabao Cup win in his final campaign.

Meanwhile, England’s search for a new manager continues, with Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and Under-21s boss Lee Carsley among the favorites. The FA is keen on hiring an English manager for the position but would consider exceptional candidates from abroad. Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter are also in the running for the job.
