Jon Voight is beaming with pride over his daughter, Angelina Jolie, and granddaughter, Vivienne Jolie. The veteran actor couldn’t help but gush about the talented duo’s recent triumph at the 2024 Tony Awards.
In a recent interview with TMZ, the 85-year-old shared his joy and admiration for Jolie and Vivienne’s work on The Outsiders, a musical they coproduced that took home four prestigious Tonys, including the coveted award for Best Musical.
Voight revealed that Jolie had called him to share the news of her involvement in the Broadway production, which was inspired by Vivienne’s passion for the source material. At just 15 years old, Vivienne had discovered the musical during its 2023 run at the La Jolla Playhouse and immediately fell in love with it, encouraging her mother to see it.

“It’s amazing,” Voight said. “I had just worked with Francis [Ford] Coppola on Megalopolis. And during the filming, I got a call from Angie, and she said, ‘I’m doing The Outsiders.’ Vivienne had read the book and then went to see this pre-Broadway version near San Diego. She was so taken by it that she urged her mother to see it, too.”
The proud grandfather went on to praise his granddaughter’s talent and eye for the arts, suggesting that she could have a promising future as a producer. “The directors of this piece said she had talent,” he added. “She has an eye for something.”
Jolie, who shares Vivienne with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, has also spoken highly of her daughter’s passion for theater. In a statement announcing their involvement in The Outsiders, Jolie praised Vivienne’s thoughtful and supportive nature, drawing comparisons to her own mother.

“Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives,” Jolie said. “She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
Jolie’s pride in her daughter’s accomplishments was evident once again when The Outsiders debuted on Broadway in April. She praised Vivienne’s dedication and seriousness as her assistant during the production.
As for Vivienne, she is credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the playbill for the production, a name that stands out from the hyphenated last name she shares with her siblings: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and Knox.
With a talented and supportive family behind her, Vivienne Jolie is well on her way to making a name for herself in the world of theater and beyond.
